Salvatore Sirigu 6/10 - Little to do for much of the day with the Dutch down to 10 men for 81 minutes. Awkwardly fumbled the Netherlands’ only shot on target from Wesley Sneijder, but covered his mistake by getting to the rebound.
Andrea Ranocchia 6.5/10 - A solid showing from the Inter defender. Had a few lapses, inadvertently sparking a Dutch counter and letting Robin van Persie in behind to shoot, but was focused for the most part.
Leonardo Bonucci 7.5/10 - Provided a trademark long ball for Immobile to latch on to for the opening goal. Anticipated the Netherlands’ build up play intelligently, making several interceptions and leaving van Persie isolated.
Davide Astori 7/10 - Untroubled by Kuyt and looked comfortable in possession. Dominant in the air when the Dutch were able to get forward, winning 86% of his headed duels.
Matteo Darmian 7/10 - Energetic out wide on the right. More of an attacking threat than De Sciglio, keeping Daley Blind pinned back for the majority of the day. Combined well with Marchisio.
Claudio Marchisio 7/10 - Barely misplaced a pass and made himself a constant outlet for De Rossi in midfield. Harassed Sneijder to break up Dutch attempts to get forward, rushing the ex-Inter playmaker and cutting off passing lanes.
Daniele De Rossi 7.5/10 - A captain’s display. Mopped up absolutely everything in front of the defence and distributed the ball with pinpoint accuracy. Took over penalty duty and coolly dispatched a perfect spot-kick.
Emanuele Giaccherini 6.5/10 - A favourite of Conte’s from his Juventus days, made a triumphant return to the national set-up. Worked hard per usual, pressing with intensity off the ball. Not terribly involved in attack - Conte will be keen to see more from the Sunderland man here.
Mattia De Sciglio 6.5/10 - Always an outlet down the left, receiving diagonal balls. Looked a bit hamstrung playing on his weak foot, however, not able to drive to the byline and get crosses in when relying on his left foot.
Simone Zaza 7/10 - An excellent debut for the first Sassuolo player ever to represent the Azzurri. Did ever so well to win the penalty and combined wonderfully with Immobile. Had a golden chance saved by Cillessen at close range and looked determined to get a goal.
Ciro Immobile 8/10 - Had Italy on top inside the opening three minutes, controlling Bonucci’s ball over the top and rounding Cillessen to coolly slot home. Held the ball up well and made penetrating runs as the situation called for. Showed why he should be Italy’s first-choice striker.
Marco Verratti (63’ for Marchisio) 6.5/10 - Brought a bit of verve back to a tiring Italy after coming on. Got himself booked for a two-footed challenge on Sneijder.
Marco Parolo (67’ for De Rossi) 6/10 - Stepped into De Rossi’s role and didn’t let much get past him.
Manuele Pasqual (67’ for De Sciglio) 6.5/10 - Brought a different dimension to the Azzurri attack after replacing De Sciglio. Whipped in several tantalising crosses for Mattia Destro to attack.
Antonio Candreva (73‘ for Darmian) 6/10 - Didn’t have much time on the pitch, but did with it what he could. Completed all of his passes and made sure the Dutch had to respect the counter.
Mattia Destro (73‘ for Zaza) 6.5/10 - Looked keen to get on the scoresheet in just 17 minutes of work. Charged into the box at every opportunity. Agonisingly headed over the bar at close range on the end of a Pasqual cross.
