Tottenham latest, Assou-Ekotto omitted from squad, rumours surrounding forward

A selection of the latest stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Thursday evening.

The writing appears to be on the wall for Benoit Assou-Ekotto after he was left out of Tottenham's squad that was submitted to the Premier League.

There were rumours suggesting that he was allowed to leave the club on a free transfer during the recent transfer window but there appears to have been no takers.

Even if he had been included in the squad, the left-back would have faced tough competition for a place in the side with Danny Rose and Ben Davies competing for a starting spot.

The transfer window may be shut but there are still some rumours ahead of the January window. The Daily Star is citing reports suggesting that Spurs will return to Southampton with an offer for forward Jay Rodriguez.

The England international has been recovering from a knee injury since April, and will probably not be available until October. Spurs were strongly linked with a move for Rodriguez during this window, along with his teammate Morgan Schneiderlin - both of whom worked with Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino at St Mary's.

Tottenham have confirmed their home match against West Bromwich Albion has been moved to Sunday 21 September, kicking off at 1:30 pm. This is due to Tottenham's involvement in the Europa League group stage.
