Arsenal latest: Free agent Yepes linked; £16m newbie says Henry was his 'idol'

All the latest news and gossip from The Emirates this evening.

Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Colombian veteran Mario Yepes. The 36-year-old defender is a free agent after leaving Italian side Atalanta at the end of last season.

Yepes had a sensational World Cup for his country and that has thrust him into the spotlight despite his advancing years.

Arsenal sold Thomas Vermaelen this summer and at the time Arsene Wenger admitted the club might be considering a move for another centre-back to act as his replacement.

No deal ever happened so they currently have just Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Callum Chambers who can fill in at the heart of defence.

Reports in Colombia suggest Wenger is a long time fan of the player, back to his days with Paris Saint-Germain in France.

He would be joining fellow Colombian international David Ospina at The Emirates should he decide to make the move, and Arsenal decide to follow up their reported interest.

Danny Welbeck has revealed that Thierry Henry was his idol growing up. Welbeck, who joined Arsenal from Manchester United for £16 million on Transfer Deadline Day, said of the Arsenal legend:

“I loved watching Thierry Henry since I was a little kid. My two idols are Ryan Giggs and Thierry Henry so to come to the club where he was and had so much success at is something you can look up to and try to stamp your own print on the club."

Welbeck will hope to make his debut against Manchester City next Saturday, he is currently on international duty with England.

Yaya Sanogo has scored! He bagged twice for the France under-21 side this evening in a 5-1 for his nation. But before you get carried away, it was against Kazakhstan.
