Argentine press react to Angel di Maria's performance against Germany

Manchester United's club record purchase from Real Madrid shone in Argentina's 4-2 triumph over the World Champions.

Manchester United were given a glimpse into what the future may have in store for them as one of their marquee captures of the summer transfer window, erstwhile Real Madrid attacker Angel di Maria, produced a five-star performance for Argentina in a 4-2 victory over Germany in what was a friendly rematch of the World Cup final contested earlier in the summer.

The South American nation lost the final in Brazil and even though they registered an immediate win over the newly-crowned World Champions, Argentina may not have gained closure of the defeat as the triumph was against a Germany side depleted of quality.

Regardless, there were many reasons to be cheerful.

These included a lethal finish from Manchester City superstar Sergio Aguero to open Argentina's account, an accomplished defensive display from Federico Fernandez that included efficiency at the attacking end, a superb midfield shield in Javier Mascherano, the hat-trick of saves that Sergio Romero pulled off, a resurgent Erik Lamela and, most of all, the devastating ability of Angel di Maria.

Manchester United spent big on di Maria - and the £59.7 million he cost appears like it could be money well spent if the forward continues like this.

Clarin, the most popular news outlet in Buenos Aires, talked-up di Maria's "great performance" and said the victory would not have been possible without his grace on the ball and ingenious attack.

He "assisted Aguero, Lamela and Fede Fernandez for the first three" and would have arguably created even more headlines had it not been for Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle and Bayern Munich's versatile player Mario Gotze "watering down the party."

Any more performances like this from di Maria and he may well end up causing a carnival - both in Manchester, and in Buenos Aires.
