Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho put in a dominant display for France as Les Bleus secured a friendly win against a lacklustre Spain.
While midfielders Koke and Paul Pogba were superb for either side, it was one-sided for Sakho in dominating Chelsea and Spain's in-form hitman Diego Costa.
Sakho has played only the one Premier League game for Liverpool this season, helping them keep a clean sheet away at Tottenham last time out.
He did the same in France's 1-0 win, in which Loic Remy scored the winner with an impressive effort from 20 yards out.
His new Chelsea teammate Diego Costa, who has four goals in three Premier League games, was not so fortunate, managing just one shot, which was off target, and substituted off after 67 minutes.
Sakho was outstanding in the victory, making 14 clearances, with his fellow three starting defenders making 16 combined.
He also made four successful tackles and four interceptions on the night, and blocked one shot on goal. Also to his credit was his 94 per cent pass completion rate, making the match against the recently deposed world champions look easier than it should have been.
Competition for a place at Liverpool has been ramped up by the signing of Dejan Lovren, and if it continues to push Sakho into making similarly impressive displays, the Reds will have a superb player on their hands.
