Welbeck was linked with moves to both North London clubs on transfer deadline day at the start of this week but eventually opted for a permanent move to the Emirates.
The Sun doesn’t reveal what Wilshere told Welbeck to convince him Arsenal was the better club (only the player himself could confirm that), but it’s a good job Wilshere did as the Gunners badly needed another forward to go into their squad.
The tug of war started when reports suggested that there was the possibility of a loan to either side.
Arsenal were in for a striker because of an injury to Olivier Giroud while Spurs needed a player simply to add depth to their own attack.
There were positives on either side for Welbeck to go for a loan deal but Wilshere appears to have played a key role in getting the England man committed to a permanent move to Arsenal.
Arsenal is one of the best clubs in Europe for any player to improve their game and Welbeck is likely to benefit under the guidance of Arsene Wenger over the rest of the season.
It will be fascinating to eventually find out what Wilshere said to convince Welbeck the Emirates was a better option than White Hart Lane.
