August was an important month for sides all over the country as the Premier League returned to action.
There were some notable performances over the first three games of the new campaign as the league starts to take a little bit of shape.
Chelsea look impressive early on while Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have all dropped early points and Manchester United continue their search for a first win.
We’ve reviewed the action to produce our player of the month for August. Here are the five candidates.
Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur)
The England under-21 international has had a superb start to the season after joining Spurs from Sporting Lisbon. He scored the winner in the opening game against West Ham and has already played effectively at both right-back and centre-back for Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
Nathan Dyer (Swansea City)
Dyer is the highest scoring midfielder from August. His three goals have helped the Swans get off to a great start in the league. He’s versatile, quick and has been the most effective winger over the first three games of the new campaign. Swansea are the only other side to match Chelsea’s perfect start.
Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal)
Rambo has been in great form, carrying forward the momentum he created last season. He’s the complete box-to-box midfielder and is going to be vital for the Gunners over the course of this campaign across all competitions as they chase silverware.
Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea)
Fabregas has been the heartbeat of the Chelsea team, which sits top of the table over Swansea on goal difference. He’s perfect for any dream team because he accumulates assists and makes the right creative decisions. Sides need to find was to keep him quiet quickly.
Diego Costa (Chelsea)
Costa has been in brilliant form following his move from Atletico Madrid. He has four goals from his first three games and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. If he can stay fit then he’s looking good as an early bet for the Premier League’s golden boot.
Our player of the month for August is Diego Costa.
His performances considering he’s in a new league and under the pressure of leading Chelsea’s attack have been superb.
