Manchester City's longest serving player will spend the rest of the season at Fiorentina and he has sent an open letter to the Premier League champions' fans.
Richards completed one of the more interesting deadline day transfers in Italy, joining Vincenzo Montella's side on a season loan.
The move should give Richards a chance to reassert his abilities after becoming somewhat peripheral in Manchester.
But it will be a big challenge for the right-back, who has been with Man City since joining their youth set-up back in 2001.
"I can't wait to start this new adventure with Fiorentina.
"I want to thank Manchester City and all the staff for the incredible support that they have given me ever since my debut in 2005.
"The City fans are the best in England and I will always love the club. To the Fiorentina fans I say ciao! I can't wait to work hard for such a historic club and to have my first experiences in Italian football."
Fiorentina lost their season opener 2-0 to Roma and will be looking to bounce back against Genoa in their next outing.
