Cagliari sporting director Francesco Marroccu has some bad news for Leeds United fans; the club are unlikely to sign Dario Del Fabro on a permanent basis at the end of the season.
The talented teenage defender has been confirmed on a season long loan deal but Marroccu has suggested the Italian club expect him to return when the loan agreement expires.
“Del Fabro will return to Cagliari on 30th June,” he said simply, as quoted by Tutto Marcato.
The statement doesn’t mean Leeds have lost all hope of a permanent deal, if the youngster’s season in the Championship turns out to be a good one.
He’s yet to make his first appearance for the club and any new manager coming in has to decide whether Del Fabro will be a key component of his first team.
It’s only natural for Cagliari to want to protect one of their best assets and potentially extend his current contract.
For now, it’s important he focuses on performing well for the club in the Championship and domestic cup competitions to give himself extra options at the end of the season.
