Ray Parlour’s thoughts on Arsene Wenger’s long-term successor, Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Ray Parlour gives his opinion on who should succeed Arsene Wenger as the Arsenal manager in the future.

Arsene Wenger may be 64 years of age and has been at Arsenal since 1996, but the Frenchman is not going to step down as the North London club’s manager anytime soon.

However, the Gunners will need someone to replace him in the future. But who is good enough to step into the shoes of one of the most famous and heralded managers of all time?

Roberto Martinez - that’s who. Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes that the current Everton boss has what it takes to manage the 13-time English champions.

The 41-year-old former England international midfielder has also thrown a couple of other names who could take charge of Arsenal in the future – and both are his former teammates.

‘At the moment I'm sticking with Arsene Wenger’, Parlour wrote on Sportlobster.com. ‘One day they'll need one and I reckon someone in the mould of Martinez would work well.

‘I'd love to see Dennis Bergkamp in the setup and I think Thierry Henry would make an incredible manager, he's very intelligent’.

Turning his attention to current matters, Parlour gave a detailed analysis of how Wenger can get the best out of Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

‘He's great in tight areas with little one twos and I think he can play in the deeper role but he's so good at bursting forward he can do either’, wrote Parlour about Wilshere. ‘Being a midfielder is all about using your brain and he reads the game very well for someone his age’.

Parlour added on Oxlade-Chamberlain: ‘I think Oxlade-Chamberlain's best position is in a three in midfield. He's a versatile player and he can play wide but I think he can play in a deep central role and make late runs into the box. In the future I think he'll be better in a central position with his turn of pace and his ability to beat people’.
