Former Liverpool player Jamie Redknapp says Manchester United have signed one of the best number nines he’s ever seen in the form of Radamel Falcao.
United pulled off the deal of transfer deadline day when Falcao signed on a season long loan deal, with the Old Trafford club thought to have the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.
Redknapp couldn’t help but purr over United’s capture with comments caught by the Daily Mail.
“He's one of the best No 9s I've ever seen. His movement and ability to hold up the ball is phenomenal. Anyone who can keep Diego Costa out of the Atletico Madrid team must be special,” said Redknapp.
“As long as he's fit after his cruciate-ligament injury, he will rip this league apart. He's athletic, has spring and can finish with subtlety or smash the ball into the top corner.”
Those fitness concerns will be at the forefront of Louis van Gaal’s mind but Falcao featured in pre-season games for Monaco and could make his Manchester United debut in the game against Queens Park Rangers in September 14.
United have struggled through their opening three games of the new season with two points from three games although van Gaal will be pleased his side are yet to lose away from home.
United have played just one game at home, which was the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea and the side has been dramatically improved since that game with some world class players.
The fee United have reportedly paid for Falcao has been heavily criticised considering the accumulative costs of one season on loan for the Colombian are set to reach the £20 million mark.
However, United managed to pull off the deal ahead of some very strong rivals for Falcao’s signature and for that they must be praised.
