On this day: Bendtner's Arsenal promise, Moyes plans two key signings

Stories about Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United all feature.

The focus has switched from transfer deadline day to the international break, with plenty of Premier League players on duty for their countries over the next week.

The fallout from the transfer window is still being experienced at clubs all over the country and we decided to cast our minds back to this day last year to see which stories were grabbing the headlines.

‘Bendtner’s Arsenal promise’

Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner made a promise of full commitment towards the club after it became apparent the Gunners weren’t going to sign another striker.

The Dane was tipped to make a switch to Crystal Palace this time last year but failure to land other attacking targets caused Arsenal to stop that from happening.

“I want to assure all Arsenal fans that I will give everything I have to contribute,” said the forward.

‘Moyes plans two January transfers’

The Daily Mail ran a report, which suggested Manchester United boss David Moyes was planning January moves for Ander Herrera and Leighton Baines.

United were unsuccessful in attempts to sign either player last summer and last winter, as Moyes brought in Juan Mata from Chelsea instead.

Herrera ultimately joined the club under Louis van Gaal but Baines stayed on at Everton, signing a new contract.

‘Moses says Sturridge was behind move’

Victor Moses revealed that Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge was behind his loan move to Anfield.

Moses signed as cover out wide for Brendan Rodgers’ team but failed to have the impact he, or Chelsea, would have been hoping for.

“I spoke to Studge and he wanted me to come here. He said I’d love it here, but he didn’t need to say much,” said Moses.

‘Oscar pays tribute to Mourinho’

Brazilian midfielder Oscar was full of praise for Jose Mourinho, who had just re-joined Chelsea for his second spell at the club.

Oscar was one of the players Mourinho tasked with becoming a more complete, all round number ten.

“It’s been great to work with Jose Mourinho. He is one of the best coaches in the world. We have seen he has already had a lot of success at Chelsea and I am just really happy to have the opportunity to work with him,” he said.
