Liverpool will be hoping to go one better in the Premier League this season as they look to secure an historic title win.
The Reds improved their squad massively over the summer with plenty of cash spent to keep them ahead of their main rivals in domestic and European football.
That spending has left Brendan Rodgers with plenty of great squad options to choose from and we’ve attempted to name his strongest possible starting side.
GK – Simon Mignolet
The Belgian is the club’s undoubted number one.
RB – Jon Flanagan
Set to return to action after the international break and he could settle on the right.
CB – Martin Skrtel
Arguably the best defender in the Premier League when it comes to performing the basics of defending.
CB – Dejan Lovren
The Croatian has slotted straight into the back four and has had some decent performances so far.
LB – Alberto Moreno
Looks sharp going forward and will improve defensively. Scored a beauty of a goal against Spurs.
RM – Raheem Sterling
Sterling’s pace and skill off of the right hand side makes him frightening for any defence to play against.
CM – Jordan Henderson
Arguably the most versatile player at the club. He’s capable of dropping off as well as getting forward.
CM – Steven Gerrard
Liverpool’s leader. He injects experience into the middle of the team and steps up at key moments.
AM – Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian has been described as the brain of the side by Rodgers. He’s one of the best number tens in the league.
LM – Daniel Sturridge
Sturridge is listed at left midfield because we had to fit him in somewhere. He’s been one of Liverpool’s best players over the last 12 months.
ST – Mario Balotelli
World class on his day, infuriating at other times. His fitness will improve as he plays more games.
