Aston Villa have got off to a great start in the Premier League this season, taking an early position towards the top of the table.
The club have a great chance of breaking into the top half by the end of the campaign and Paul Lambert has a strong squad of players to use over the course of the season.
After the transfer window slammed shut, we’ve attempted to name Aston Villa’s strongest possible side.
GK – Brad Guzan
The American has been one of the club’s most consistent players in recent times. He starts.
RB – Alan Hutton
Hutton is a very experienced player and a solid right-back who adds great balance to the team.
CB – Philippe Senderos
Another very experienced defender and someone who has fitted into Villa’s back four easily.
CB – Ron Vlaar
The fact so many clubs were linked with signing Vlaar over the summer is a tribute to his consistency and quality.
LB – Aly Cissokho
Failed to make the grade at Liverpool last season but he’s a solid left-back defensively and going forward to provide extra width.
RM – Gabriel Agbonlahor
Agbonlahor can play in a variety of positions and we’ve put him on the right for the sake of getting him into the team. His pace is frightening.
CM – Ashley Westwood
He’s developed into a tremendous player under the guidance of Paul Lambert and keeps Cleverley out of the team.
CM – Fabian Delph
Delph’s form this season has seen him secure a place in the England senior squad. He starts.
LM – Charles N’Zogbia
N’Zogbia is a Villa player capable of taking a game away from any opponent. His decision making and consistency is impressive.
ST – Andreas Weimann
The Austrian has turned himself into one of Aston Villa’s most important players. He’s quick, he’s got great movement and also has the ability to drop into a number ten role.
ST – Christian Benteke
Benteke is battling away to recover from an Achilles injury but when he’s fit and in full flow, there are few better players suited to Premier League football.
