IN PHOTOS: The story of Cleverley's career against Aston Villa

We highlight the notable performances that Manchester United loanee, Tom Cleverley, has given against his new side Aston Villa so far.

Tom Cleverley's loan move to Aston Villa may be make or break for his career. The 25-year-old can no longer be considered a youngster and it is time he starts showing his early promise which saw him break into the Manchester United team.

The England international's performances have been heavily scrutinised in recent times and the criticism his clearly affected his performances level. Cleverley has looked bereft of confidence and riddled with fear of making a mistake in his appearances of Old Trafford and, as a result, his performance issues cannot be solely blamed on him.

At Villa, expectations are significantly reduced and it could be the move to get his career, which was beginning to stagnate, on the right track again.

Indeed, Cleverley already knows what is is like to score at Villa Park, having achieved the feat with United.

In this piece we look at some of the memorable appearances Cleverley has made against his new club.

10th November 2012 - Aston Villa 2-3 Manchester United

Cleverley's first appearance against Villa came in the 2012 when he entered the action as a 71st minute substitute. The scores, at that time, were 2-2, but the energetic central midfielder's introduction clearly had the desired effect as United scrambled an 87th minute winner in a pulsating contest.

22nd April 2013 - Manchester United 3-0 Aston Villa

The Villa loan signing was forced to watch on the next time that his side faced Villa during the 2012/13 season. It turned out to be a vital victory for the Red Devils, as it secured their league title and Cleverley was able to join in with the celebrations after the match. He will now be hoping that he can enjoy some similarly positive times, if not league winning successes, during his time in the Midlands.

15th December 2013 - Aston Villa 0-3 Manchester United

By far Cleverley's most notable performance against his new team, this was his first start against Paul Lambert's side and it has to go down as one of his better performances in a United shirt. The former Watford loanee managed to score the goal which rounded off United's win, with a fine strike, and it capped off an excellent display. He will be hoping it isn't the last time that he can celebrate in-front of the Villa supporters.
