Oussama Assaidi has been working hard to be fit for the new season after signing on a season-long loan for Stoke City for the second consecutive season.

The winger, who is on loan from Liverpool, has been struggling with a knee problem for much of the summer after sustaining the injury during his first loan spell at the Britannia Stadium last term.

He's quoted in the Stoke Sentinel, saying: "With my injury I've had to train really hard with Liverpool, in the gym as well as out on the training pitch so I can't wait to play my first game.

"I've had a little bit of pain with my injury but now I am fit and hope to play.

"I'm very happy to play again for Stoke. It's like I'm back home because I know everyone.

"I know the players, I know the boss and I know the fans of course. I like the fans, they still like me I think and I'm very happy to be here."

It is a crucial season for Assaidi at Stoke having been told by Liverpool his chances will have been limited on Merseyside, combined with the club's recruitment this summer. It could have been a permanent deal to take him to the Britannia Stadium this season but personal terms were a stumbling block.

However, the signing made a lot of sense given the injury to Peter Odemwingie - but Assaidi knows Stoke and the club knows him.

It must be said, the chances of him returning to first team action at Liverpool after his second spell at the Potters is over are very slim. Therefore he will need to impress again to make sure he has sufficient interest to either secure a deal at Stoke, or elsewhere.
