Hull City player David Meyler has been speaking about his prospects of featuring more regularly for the Republic of Ireland.

The 25-year-old has just eight caps for his country despite making his debut two years ago, and in an interview with the Herald, the Hull player revealed he was hoping for more chances under new boss Martin O’Neill.

“I’ve got to kick on again,” the midfielder said. “I’ve got to try and force my way into the team when I’m playing regularly all the time.”

But the Hull star accepted that it would not be easy with so many quality players competing for a starting-berth.

“There’s plenty of players gunning for a place,” he added. “Whatever eleven the manager decides to pick, you can be sure that everyone who’s on the bench or not involved will be cheering them on.”

In other news, new Hull loanee Hatem Ben Arfa has written an open letter to Newcastle United fans, thanking both the Magpies and the Tigers for making the loan move happen.

Of his new manager, the Frenchman said, “I thank him for the trust he has shown in me bringing me to this club.”

And finally, Matt Jarvis is aiming to be back for West Ham’s match against Hull on September 15.

The winger has been out with a thigh injury sustained in pre-season, but the Hammers’ official website has revealed the player could be back in time to face Hull in just under two weeks.
