Former Everton midfielder Royston Drenthe is now a Sheffield Wednesday player.

Sheffield Wednesday yesterday confirmed the loan signing of Reading midfielder Royston Drenthe.

The former Dutch international once starred for Real Madrid, leaving the Bernabeu for Everton on loan in 2011.

Since then he has played in Russia with Alania Vladikadvaz, and spent last season with Reading.

Wednesday announced on deadline day that Drenthe has signed on loan until January 2.

As per terms of the deal, the 27-year-old midfielder will not be able to play against Reading when the two teams meet later this month.

The midfielder is expected to make his debut against Bolton Wanderers on September 13.

Drenthe once cost Real Madrid £12 million and played more than 60 games for the club.

He had not featured early this season for Reading, but played 23 Championship games for the Royals last season, scoring twice and providing the assist.
