Southampton were busy on transfer deadline day, bringing in Sadio Mane from Red Bull Salzburg and Toby Alderweireld on loan from Atletico Madrid.
They also bid farewell – for the season at least – to Jos Hooiveld and Gaston Ramirez, meaning Ronald Koeman has a new-look side following his earlier transfer business.
And the Saints boss is clearly happy with the players now at his disposal, taking to Twitter on Tuesday morning to say just that.
“Happy and delighted with our squad for this season,” the Dutchman wrote. “We show our ambition.”
They certainly do, with both deadline day arrivals a statement of intent after a summer that has seen a number of players leave St Mary’s.
Despite that, the club are looking in good shape for the campaign ahead and there is no reason they cannot continue on their impressive upward trajectory on the pitch.
It is now up to Southampton’s new players, along with those who remained from last season, to show those who have left that the club will continue to succeed without them.
Happy and delighted with our Squad for this season! We show our ambition! @SouthamptonFC— Ronald Koeman (@RonaldKoeman) September 2, 2014
