On this day: Wenger buys Ozil, Mourinho blocks Ba move, Moyes panics

Stories involving Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United from this day last year all feature.

The transfer window for this summer has slammed shut after some frantic business yesterday saw some very big deals going through.

Manchester United have snapped up the signing of Radamel Falcao while Arsenal gave into the pressure to buy a centre forward with a late move for Danny Welbeck.

There was also movement across other clubs with plenty of sides improving their squads including Crystal Palace and Burnley.

We’ve decided to take a look back at the stories grabbing the headlines on this day last year.

‘Arsenal complete Mesut Ozil signing’

Arsene Wenger commissioned a big money bid for Arsenal to sign Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.

It was a huge deal and one that many Arsenal fans wouldn’t have expected.

The Gunners reportedly beat Chelsea and Manchester United to the signing of the German playmaker.

‘Mourinho stops star from leaving’

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho blocked striker Demba Ba from joining Arsenal on a loan deal.

Mourinho seemingly didn’t want to make one of his main rivals a stronger unit at Chelsea’s expense.

It’s a decision that Ba has subsequently criticised Mourinho for following his recent exit from Stamford Bridge.

‘Manchester United, Marouane Fellaini and Fabio Coentrao’

Manchester United were in the thick of the action on deadline day last year.

David Moyes’ side completed a late deal for Marouane Fellaini from Everton but their hopes of signing Fabio Coentrao from Real Madrid hung in the balance.

The Portuguese defender was thought to be keen on the move but there wasn’t enough time for United to get a deal done and he went onto recently sign a new deal at the Bernabeu.
