North-East latest: Ben Arfa prospect excites Bruce, Sunderland ace could still leave

We bring you the latest news from Newcastle United, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.

Bruce excited by Ben Arfa

Hull City’s latest recruit Hatem Ben Arfa is already exciting his manager Steve Bruce.

The mercurial winger moved on loan to the Tigers yesterday from Newcastle United – leaving Magpies supporters angry at losing the fans’ favourite.

Ben Arfa has fallen out with Alan Pardew, but he remains one of the most talented players at St. James’ Park and his departure on loan has left supporters once again questioning the managerial hierarchy at the Magpies.

It has been good news for Hull, though, and Bruce is already thinking about drawing out the best in Ben Arfa despite his lack of first-team football in recent times.

“He is an an exciting talent,” Bruce said. “The question is can we ignite him again?

“Whatever has happened with him at Newcastle has happened. It’s a big challenge for us all.

“He wants to get his career kick-started again. Let’s hope I can get the best out of him.”

Coloccini backs club’s transfer window

Fabricio Coloccini has backed the club’s transfer window, despite a lack of big name additions.

The likes of Emmanuelle Riviere, Ayoze Perez, Daryl Janmaat, Siem De Jong and Remy Cabella all joined up this summer, amongst others, but Magpies supporters have still been left frustrated.

They still feel there are gaps in the Newcastle squad, particularly at centre-back, but Coloccini has no such worries.

“I think everyone can see the way the club wants to go,” he said.

“They’ve brought in many players, good players, and the club has ambition as well."

Cabral could still leave

Sunderland midfielder Cabral could still leave the club, despite the transfer deadline passing.

The powerhouse player was touted to leave the club for much of the summer, but no permanent deal was struck before 11pm yesterday.

Now, Cabral’s agent Walter Fernandez is looking at other routes out for his client and one of these could be leaving on loan, with the window opening next Monday.

“Yes, we are looking at move to the Championship and Cabral would be interested in that,” Fernandez told the Echo.

“He stayed at Sunderland yesterday because the interest was not advanced enough to leave.”

Ricky Alvarez excited by Sunderland move

Sunderland’s deadline day recruit Ricky Alvarez says that he is excited by the challenge of moving to the Stadium of Light.

Alvarez joined up from Inter Milan on loan for a season, although the Black Cats do have an option to make the deal permanent next year, and he says that he is excited by the challenge.

“It’s a great opportunity, a great club and I’m looking forward to playing in England and playing my part for Sunderland,” he said.

Jelle Vossen can't wait to start at Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough secured the signing of long-term target Jelle Vossen yesterday and the Belgian forward is already looking forward to getting started.

The striker has been on ‘Boro’s wishlist for the past few windows, but they finally acquired him at the last minute on deadline day and Vossen is now excited to show what he can do at his new club.

“I’m really happy to be here. It took some time to get things right but I’m very happy that I can start a new challenge and try to get some good results with the team,” he said.
