Manchester United latest: Midfielder leaves on loan; Ronaldo on Hernandez

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from Old Trafford…

Tom Cleverley has joined Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United despite the transfer window closing yesterday at 11:00pm.

The Daily Mail reports that the Premier League okayed the deal despite Villa asking for a two-hour extension and then allegedly filing the paperwork 15 minutes beyond that.

The England international looked set for a permanent move to Villa Park before reports of late interest from Everton.

In the end it appeared he was going nowhere, but just a few hours later and he has officially swapped United for Villa as he seeks to prove to Louis van Gaal that he can be a part of his parent-club’s future.

In other news, Cristiano Ronaldo has been speaking about Javier Hernandez following the Mexican’s loan move to Real Madrid.

In quotes originally in Marca and later published by Sports Mole, the Portuguese international said, “(Hernandez) is another player to help the team.

“I wish him a lot of success and hope he can help us a lot.”

The forward is another with a lot to prove after falling down the pecking order at United in recent times.

And finally, Wayne Rooney has been speaking about his role as England captain as he prepares to lead the side out against Norway this week.

In quotes published by the Guardian, the United skipper said, “It’s a great honour to captain my country, something I’m extremely proud of.

“I want to be a successful captain and for this team to be successful. Tomorrow is the start of a new chapter.”
