Manchester City latest: Defender reveals why he left; hope for striker move

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

Manchester City striker John Guidetti could still be on his way to Celtic this season with a little help from the SFA.

Sky Sports reports that the Scottish Football Association will contact FIFA directly in the hope of overturning the decision not to allow Guidetti’s loan move to go through after time ran out and the clock ticked past the 11:00pm deadline.

A spokesman for the SFA said, “We will be contacting FIFA on Celtic’s behalf to request an ‘exception’ in order for the transfer to be concluded.”

In other news, ESPN reports that Alvaro Negredo has penned an open letter to City fans after returning to La Liga.

The forward moved to Valencia on a season-long loan deal with the option of a €30million permanent transfer, and the player took to Twitter to send a heartfelt goodbye.

“I want to thank the club for helping me become a better footballer,” he wrote, “and for making me and family feel at home during my time here.”

And finally, Micah Richards has revealed why he swapped City for a loan spell with Italian club Fiorentina.

Speaking to Talk Sport, Richards revealed that City had offered him a new deal but that he opted to take a lesser package in order to play regularly.

“I was offered more money at City but it’s not about the money,” the defender said. “It’s about playing football now.

It is an admirable sentiment from a player who, at 26, still has time on his side to get back on track after a disappointing few seasons.
