Next Leeds United manager odds: Five most likely candidates

The five most likely candidates for the Leeds United job, according to the bookies...

With Dave Hockaday's brief tenure as Leeds United boss coming to an abrupt end last week, the Yorkshire side are yet to announce their next manager.

Speculation remains rife as to who owner Massimo Cellino will appoint, and in terms of getting a feel for who it could be, the bookmakers are a good place to start.

Here is a run down of the top five most likely candidates in reverse order, according to SkyBet...

Giuseppe Sannino 9/1

Sannino surprisingly resigned from Watford at the weekend, with it suggested a deal to take over at Leeds was in the pipeline. That is yet to materialise so far, but his departure from the Hornets has prompted questions with them sitting second in the Championship with four wins from five.

Simon Grayson 8/1

Former Leeds boss Simon Grayson has been linked with a return from the club, but said earlier this week he did not see it as an option at present. That has not stopped the bookies making him fourth favourite for the post, counting on a U-turn.

Neil Redfearn 6/1

The current caretaker manager is third favourite to be handed the Leeds job on a permanent basis. The 49-year-old led the team to a win over Bolton in their only game so far this campaign, and may give Massimo Cellino a little extra to think about if he turns that into a winning streak.

Mark Cooper 3/1

Swindon Town boss Mark Cooper has emerged as a target for Leeds, The Mail reported earlier this week. The son of former Leeds hero Terry Cooper, he could turn out to be a popular choice if he can be tempted away from the Robins, who sit ninth in League One.

Steve Clarke 6/4

Scotsman Steve Clarke is the overwhelming favourite at present, and is available for work after being surprisingly dismissed by West Brom earlier this season. A former assistant at Chelsea and Liverpool, Clarke has worked under Jose Mourinho and Kenny Dalglish.
