Manchester United have signed some big-name players this summer, and two of them are Angel di Maria and Daley Blind.
Both have arrived at Old Trafford with big reputations, having played crucial roles in their respective nations’ 2014 World Cup campaigns in Brazil earlier this summer.
While Di Maria was a star in Argentina’s march to the final of the tournament, Blind played a composed and productive role in the Netherlands’ progress to the semi-finals.
The arrivals of Di Maria from Real Madrid for £59.7 million and Blind from Ajax for £14m have certainly boosted United’s chances of a top-four finish in the Premier League.
United midfielder Juan Mata has welcomed the club’s two new signings and has explained what they will bring to the team.
‘Here I would like to welcome Di María and Blind to the club’, the Spain international wrote on his blog. ‘I am sure these two players will give a lot to us and will strengthen the team.
‘We already know what Ángel is capable of, his ability and dribbling skills, and Daley has a great touch and is very intelligent, as he showed during the World Cup’.
Di Maria and Blind are both brilliant players – the former is a truly world-class winger who can also play in midfield – and United are now certainly a much better team (on paper at least) than they were a few weeks ago.
On transfer deadline day, United completed the signing of Colombia international striker Radamel Falcao from AS Monaco on a one-year loan deal, thereby making themselves genuine challengers for the top four.
