Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier has withdrawn from the England under-21 squad and returned to the North London club because of injury.
Dier was part of the squad to feature in the European Under-21 qualifying games against Lithuania and Moldova but he will no longer feature during the current international break.
The news is a worry for Spurs because Dier has been one of their most impressive players over the start of this season.
He grabbed the winner for his new side in Tottenham’s opening game of the season against London rivals West Ham United.
The official report from the FA’s website doesn’t detail the injury Dier is apparently carrying but if it’s a minor problem, Dier could feature in Tottenham’s next game against Sunderland on September 13.
Spurs then travel to Belgrade for the opening match of their Europa League group campaign against Partizan on Thursday September 18.
If it’s a more serious or long term problem then the club should make an official announcement in due course.
