Arsenal morning news: Wenger on Sanogo and Rabiot rejection

A round up of news stories this morning about Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has jumped to the defence of Yaya Sanogo, who was criticised in the build up to yesterday’s transfer deadline day.

Sanogo has been used frequently already this season but has been criticised for below par performances.

“When you are 21 and play up front and don’t score it is very quickly a problem. I don’t think that problem will last very long but when you have the chance to play for Arsenal and you don’t score it is a problem. He tried very hard,” said the boss.

Arsenal have completed a deadline day swoop for Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck.

Welbeck, who can play up front or off of the left hand side, joins from the Old Trafford club in a £16 million deal.

The move for Welbeck was reportedly on and off throughout yesterday but the Gunners got the deal done and beat Spurs to the signing in the process.

Arsenal missed out on talented French youngster Adrien Rabiot who joined Roma in an £11.9 million deal.

The 19-year-old midfielder was linked with the Gunners at various points throughout the summer.
