Former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic couldn’t have hoped for a worse start to his career at Inter Milan.
The Serbian central defender started in Inter’s game against Torino, which ended 0-0, and was shown a red card in injury time for dissent towards the referee.
Vidic had earlier given away a penalty in the first-half of the game, which was fortunately saved thus preventing Inter from falling behind.
Manchester United were unsuccessful in attempting to get Vidic to stay at the club beyond last season and several attribute the current inadequacies of Louis van Gaal’s back four to not having a defender of Vidic’s calibre and experience available.
Perhaps what was most surprising about the sending off was Vidic’s reaction as he laughed at the referee’s decision before walking off of the pitch.
He will now be unavailable through suspension for key games as Inter look to rise to an early lead in the Serie A table.
