New Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno has made a positive start at Anfield, winning the plaudits of former 80s hero John Aldridge.
It seemed at one point that the deal might not go through, but the Merseysiders will be glad they persisted and sealed a reported £12 million deal as Moreno has adapted to Premier League football with aplomb.
After a solid start at reigning champions Manchester City, the Spanish international topped off a fabulous Liverpool performance yesterday with a stunning solo goal in the 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

Aside from his goal, the former Sevilla star was a rock at the back as Opta Stats reveal the defender made three tackles and an impressive nine clearances – his side’s second most on the day.
Going forward, Moreno offered the visitors width throughout and completed on average 87% of his intended passes.
His fine display prompted Anfield hero John Aldridge to sing his praises on Twitter, with the former striker predicting that he will go on to become ‘the best Liverpool left-back since the great Stevie Nicol’, a player who ruled the left flank during the club’s immense success in the 80s.
It was very very nice to get a clean sheet.Lovren looked excellent.Moreno will be our best L Back since the great Stevie nicol!— John Aldridge (@Realaldo474) agosto 31, 2014
On arriving at Anfield, Moreno ended a decade-long affiliation with boyhood club Sevilla.
Despite only making his professional debut for the Spaniards in April 2012, he played a pivotal part in their recent rise and helped the club win the Europa League final against Benfica last season.
