Transfer deadline day has thrown up plenty of surprises for Newcastle United fans over the years and this latest incarnation is shaping up to be a busy one.
The Magpies appear hell-bent on bringing another striker into the fold at St James’ Park, but while there may be at least one new face at the club come Monday night, any one of three more familiar ones could be heading for the exit.
While in each case talk of a move remains purely that, here are three players you may want to keep a close eye out.
Currently out through injury, Cisse was struggling for form at Newcastle prior to being sidelined, and while the club’s move for a new striker indicates they are eager to bolster their attacking options rather than weaken them, a big money bid from Al-Rayyan could yet materialise.
The Qatari club are long-time admirers of the Senegalese star and could be willing to pay over the odds for a striker who has been misfiring for several months at St James’ Park.
Hatem Ben Arfa
The Frenchman has already reportedly rejected an offer from Turkish giants Besiktas, but with Toon boss Alan Pardew standing firm in his approach to the 27-year-old, it could be time for Ben Arfa to face up to life away from St James’ Park.
Rolando Aarons's emergence in the Newcastle first team has not helped things and with the likes of Birmingham City willing to take Ben Arfa on loan, the French star may decide enough is enough and push for a move away from the club. He will need to move quickly though.
Something of a long shot given his recent declaration of love for Newcastle, Santon could nevertheless be tempted into a move back to Italy and the chance to force his way back into the national team's plans for Euro 2016.
Once on the books at Inter Milan, the recently-injured Santon has been linked with moves to Fiorentina and AS Roma in recent weeks. Although he is settled at Newcastle, any bid from one of the Milan clubs or even Juventus could prove difficult to resist.
