Sheffield Wednesday yesterday confirmed the loan signing of Reading midfielder Royston Drenthe.
The former Dutch international once starred for Real Madrid, leaving the Bernabeu for Everton on loan in 2011.
Since then he has played in Russia with Alania Vladikadvaz, and spent last season with Reading.
Wednesday announced on deadline day that Drenthe has signed on loan until January 2.
As per terms of the deal, the 27-year-old midfielder will not be able to play against Reading when the two teams meet later this month.
The midfielder is expected to make his debut against Bolton Wanderers on September 13.
Drenthe once cost Real Madrid £12 million and played more than 60 games for the club.
Here is a look at how fans on Twitter reacted to the deal:
Drenthe. Good signing in my opinion. Bit like helan with speed but with a better end product. Plus can play in many positions as well #swfc— Tony Chambers (@tonyowlsfan) September 1, 2014
Drenthe could be an absolute master stroke or a big flop. No better coach than SG to sort his issues out. Beauty of a loan-risk free. #swfc— SemedoDay (@SemedoDay) September 1, 2014

Royston Drenthe...decent pedigree but struggled big style to adapt with Reading. But it's a winger!!! Boom! #swfc— Fraser Cross (@CrossFraser) September 1, 2014
