At the start of the day Fiorentina seemed to be a long shot to land Manchester City right back Micah Richards, but things moved quickly today and the 26-year-old is in Florence.
Manchester City's longest serving player Richards joins the Tuscan side on a season loan after West Ham United decided to pass and no late move from Sunderland materialised.
Fiorentina seem to be ready to pay a £1 million fee for the loan and the deal will be complete within the next few hours barring any unforeseen problems.
Other deals going on across Italy:
AC MILAN - AC Milan exploded into life in the market after selling Mario Balotelli and after signing Marco van Ginkel and Fernando Torres on loan, they are in the process of adding Parma winger Jonathan Biabiany in exchange for Cristian Zaccardo and around £3 million plus another £1 million in bonuses.
ROMA - Roma seem to have finished off an impressive summer transfer window with the addition of Newcastle centre-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa on loan. The 25-year-old has undergone a medical and will join for the season with the option to make the deal permanent next summer, probably for around £5 million.
TORINO - Torino have sold star forward Alessio Cerci to Atletico Madrid for around £12 million. The Granata never looked likely to keep hold of the man who fired them to the Europa League and they will now have to do without both their star goal-getters from last season after selling Ciro Immobile at the start of the summer. Arsenal never made a move in the end.
PALERMO - The Sicilian side have sold Abel Hernandez to Hull City for a fee believed to be close to £10 million. The move comes as little surprise in Palermo as the club had agreed to let Hernandez move on after he fired them back up from Serie B.
INTER - Inter and Valencia are locked in talks over Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin. Guarin seems desperate to leave Inter but the Spanish side are yet to agree the terms of a loan because they want the Italian club to continue paying a significant chunk of Guarin's wages. Talks continue.
SAMPDORIA - The future of Argentina international goalkeeper Sergio Romero remains unclear. He has been linked to Liverpool and Manchester United, but as yet there's no news. Romero's agent, Mino Raiola, also represents Mario Balotelli, so if anyone can generate a quick deal it is him.
LOOKING UNLIKELY - Manchester United's reported mega swoop for Arturo Vidal of Juventus looks more and more improbable with each passing hour. Juventus forward Sebastian Giovonco's agent has flatly rejected rumours he could be headed for Torino or Arsenal.
