The agent of FC Porto star Rolando is reportedly in Merseyside ahead of a possible move to Everton.
The 29-year-old centre back has seen his position at the Portuguese giants decline dramatically and a move to Everton on transfer deadline day is a possible way out for the Portugal international.
Roberto Martinez is thought to be keen on a deal to sign an additional defender for his squad and Rolando fits the bill in several ways.
He’s tall, he’s quick, he’s experienced and he’d arrive at Goodison Park with a point to prove following two loan spells with Napoli and Inter Milan.
The problem Everton have is that other clubs are free to speak with the player’s agent, placing Everton under additional pressure to get a deal sorted out and agreed before another team can poach him away.
There are several sides in the Premier League, and other top leagues around Europe, who could use a top quality defender in their squad.
However, the idea that he’s already in Merseyside for talks suggests that the player himself is keen on Everton.
Martinez has a great recent history of working with players and turning them into more consistent and more impressive Premier League stars.
The Toffees have competed strongly over the first few games of the new Premier League season and look in with a decent shout of securing European football and domestic success this season.
Rolando would be a great signing but whether Everton can get the deal done remains to be seen over the course of the day.
