Germany international midfielder Lewis Holtby has joined Hamburg on a season-long loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur.

Lewis Holtby has completed a one-year loan move from Tottenham Hotspur to Hamburg.

The Germany international midfielder underwent a medical earlier on Monday, and the transfer has now been confirmed by both clubs.

Holtby joined North London outfit Spurs from Schalke in January 2013, but has failed to make a huge impact in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old struggled to play regularly for Tottenham’s first team at the start of the 2013-14 season and was sent out on loan to Fulham for the second half of the campaign.

However, the former Alemannia Aachen star failed to be too impressive during his loan spell that saw the Cottagers suffer relegation to the Championship.

Many expected Holtby to be given a chance under new Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, but it appears that there is no immediate future for the German at White Hart Lane.

Whether Holtby is kept on by Tottenham when his loan spell ends remains to be seen, but the midfielder is certainly going to enjoy returning to the Bundesliga after a disappointing time in England.
