Manchester United transfer news: £5m for forward rent, Powell’s loan switch, £60,000 Cleverley impasse

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck will reportedly cost any interested club £5million for a season long loan.

That is the claim of the Sun on this transfer deadline day, with suggestions that Sunderland are one of the clubs keen to temporarily take the England international off Louis van Gaal’s hands.

It could still be a fantastic piece of business for whichever club is willing to pay the amount, with Welbeck a fine finisher when played up front – something United fans have rarely seen in recent seasons.

In other news, Goal reports that Nick Powell is set for a loan move to Leicester City.

The attacking midfielder spent last season on loan at Wigan Athletic, but it seems he could now be set to show what he can do in the top flight with the Foxes.

The Telegraph reports that Tom Cleverley’s proposed move to Aston Villa is at something of an impasse due to the player’s wage demands.

The story claims the United player is asking for £60,000-a-week and that only a reduction in those demands will see the move go through before the deadline.

And finally, the rumours linking United with a whole host of headline-inducing swoops continue, with Radamel Falcao, Arturo Vidal and William Carvalho still being linked.

One thing is for sure – it will be a very interesting day.
