Most of the transfer news on deadline day has been surrounding Manchester United. The Red Devils have swooped to sign Ajax midfielder Daley Blind in a £14m deal, whilst Monaco striker Radamel Falcao is poised to complete a shock loan deal to join the Red Devils, with Danny Welbeck reportedly on the verge of a permanent switch to Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Welbeck may not be the only player to leave Old Trafford tonight, as his England international team mate Tom Cleverley is also being strongly linked with a move away from the club. Aston Villa had been leading the race with an £8m bid last week, whilst Spanish outfit Valencia were also believed to be monitoring his situation.
However, Villa are believed to have dropped out of the race to sign the midfielder as they can't afford his wages, which leaves Cleverley in limbo as the transfer deadline approaches.
The front runners now appear to be Everton, with Roberto Martinez looking to engineer a reunion with the midfielder having worked together at Wigan Athletic during a loan spell during the 2010/11 campaign.
According to Sky Sports News, Cleverley is prepared to wait until the last minute to make a move, and Everton are also willing to leave it late before trying to pressure United into a loan deal when they'd prefer a permanent move.
It's no surprise to see Cleverley pushing for a move to Goodison Park. He played the best football of his career so far under Martinez at Wigan, and in Everton's passing football, he looks to be a perfect fit. Martinez has already resurrected the career if Gareth Barry in the Toffees midfield, and Cleverley looks to be the ideal player for the Spaniard to mould and improve on Merseyside.
