Manchester United emerged as surprise candidates to sign Radamel Falcao last night, as they sent Javier Hernandez on loan to Real Madrid.
The AS Monaco striker is reportedly up for sale or loan, and had been strongly linked with Manchester City.
City's move is however dependent on Alvaro Negredo's departure due to a Champions League squad limit, while the Red Devils have no such concerns.
United's interest was reported by French radio station RMC, who claim the club have been in contact with Falcao's agent.
The Old Trafford side have now overtaken City as favourites to sign the striker, according to SkyBet.
The signing of the prolific striker Falcao would be more papering over the cracks in midfield and defence for United, but their strikers have been lacklustre this season.
Only two goals have been scored in matches against Burnley, Sunderland, Swansea and MK Dons.
With reports Danny Welbeck could leave the club, Falcao coming into bolster the attack could help make United one of the more exciting teams in the Premier League once again.
