Slovenian international Jasmin Kurtic was in Leeds United's sights but he opted to sign for Serie A side Fiorentina instead.
The 25-year-old has joined Fiorentina despite being on Leeds' shopping list for some time and will now try and prove himself in Tuscany.
"I know it will be difficult to carve out a place in the first team but I am ready to work hard and put myself in the frame.
"I knew that Leeds were interested in me but I couldn't refuse Fiorentina."
Kurtic spent last season on loan to Torino where he made 16 appearances and found the net twice but he first made a name for himself with Palermo between 2011 and 2013.
Fiorentina seem to be adding the talented midfielder to their ranks primarily as cover given the options they already have in their squad, but the Viola may need the added strength in depth as they chase glory in Serie A and the Europa League.
Leeds turned their focus after Kurtic to Brazilian playmaker Adryan, who is set to arrive on loan from Flamengo.
