Aston Villa's "shock" bid for Real Sociedad star will be made in vain as there is little chance of the transfer materialising on deadline day.
According to the latest deadline day transfer news, the 23-year-old - who had courted apparent interest from Spain heavyweights Real Madrid and Valencia - was the subject of a "shock" bid from Villa as Paul Lambert sought to bolster his threadbare Villans midfield options.
The Daily Mail report that the move may have been a back-up option to their Plan A, which was threatening to de-rail as fringe Manchester United star Tom Cleverley "stalled" on a move to the Midlands.
Canales represented Sociedad just 16 times in La Liga duty last term, but returned an 84% passing accuracy, created 24 goal-scoring opportunities and scored twice.
Commenting on the speculation, Balague said: "[There is] no way whatsoever that Canales leaves Real Sociedad to sign for Aston Villa."
