With around five hours to go until the transfer window shuts in France, Manchester United's move for Radamel Falcao isn't the only deal being done.
Usually the transfer deadline day is a little quieter over in France, with all eyes on the ridiculous amounts of money English clubs spend on the final day. However, this year all eyes seem to be focused on the other side of the channel as a whole host of deals involving French clubs look set to go through before the midnight local time (23:00 GMT) deadline.
Radamal Falcao is the name on everyone’s lips and it looks like Manchester United are the team closest to making the deal happen. It has been mentioned that the deal will be a loan for this season, and then made permanent next summer in order to get round the Financial Fair Play restrictions.
That should now give Monaco some urgency to sign one or two before the transfer window closes, although all it has really done is start rumours linking Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho with a move away too.
Away from the Cote d’Azur there are a fair number of moves that teams are looking to complete today.
LILLE OSC – After selling Salomon Kalou to Hertha BSC, the northerners are looking to tie up a four-year deal for 20-year-old Swiss forward Michael Frey, they have also been linked with free agent Hugo Almeida, but that one can wait for another day.
MARSEILLE – Coach Marcelo Bielsa is looking to bring in a central defender today, two if they can force them over the line. The latest in a long-list of names is Brazilian centre-back Doria from Santos, but local newspaper Le Progress have already been told the deal is “complicated” that is due to some third-part ownership issues.
No matter what it takes, expect OM to get that one done shortly.
Morgan Amalfitano is close to leaving the club, with West Ham United the likely destination. He has been linked with a return to Lorient and even a move to Toulouse only today, but he is apparently on his way to London as we speak.
LORIENT – The Breton club have completed the signing of AS Nancy’s Francois Bellugou, he is a central defender and that should give Cardiff City the green light to complete the signing of Gabon international Bruno Ecuele Manga.
MONTPELLIER – La Paillade have said their goodbyes to Benjamin Stambouli and won’t likely do any business now. Still waiting on confirmation that the deal is complete, but there is nothing standing in its way.
RENNES – Former Leeds United player Habib Habibou is currently having a medical at Rennes before signing a four-year deal. This is likely to be their last move of the window. With the possibility of maybe one or two young players going out on loan.
There will likely be a few more moves that come under the radar before the window closes, and we will round up the Ligue 1 transfers after 11pm this evening.
