Leeds United have signed Brian Montenegro from Nacional Asuncion on a season-long loan deal, subject to international clearance. The Championship club have retained the option to make the move permanent at the end of the 2014-15 campaign.
Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur have also signed a player in the last hour, completing the transfer of 24-year-old Benjamin Stambouli from Montpellier on a five-year contract.
Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has also found a new club for himself on transfer deadline day. The Norwegian left-back has joined Cypriot side APOEL after being released from Fulham earlier this summer.
Another ex-Liverpool player who has made a free transfer today is striker David N'Gog, who will play for Reims this season after being released by Swansea City at the end of last season.
Earlier today, it was reported that Liverpool have accepted a £13 million bid from Queens Park Rangers for striker Fabio Borini, but so far neither club has confirmed it. Sunderland have long been linked with a move for the Italian, but it appears that they will miss out on his services.
The big transfer news of the day is Radamel Falcao’s prospective move to Manchester United on loan from AS Monaco. The Colombian’s jet from France was expected to land in Manchester just past 5pm, but there is no news on that front yet.
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham remain interested in Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck. However, the Red Devils will sanction that move only after Falcao’s transfer to Old Trafford is complete.
Meanwhile, negotiations are going on between Valencia and Manchester City over the loan move of striker Alvaro Negredo to the Spanish club.
