5:00pm Deadline Day news: Spurs sign French midfielder, Hull break transfer record for Uruguay striker

We bring you news from Hull City, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Queens Park Rangers, Leicester City, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Crystal Palace.

Breaking news:

Hull City have completed the signing of Uruguayan forward Abel Hernandez from Seria A side Palermo on a three-year deal. The 24-year-old joins Steve Bruce's side for a fee of around £9.5 million and will be Hull's replacement for Shane Long, who joined Southampton earlier this month for £12m.

Spurs are finalising a deal to bring Benjamin Stambouli to White Hart Lane. The 24-year-old defensive midfielder signed from Montpellier for a fee of £4.7m and has been pictured on Twitter putting pen to paper on his new contract.

Liverpool striker Fabio Borini looks set to join QPR, who have had an offer in the region of £10m accepted. It's been reported for most of the summer that the Italian would return to Sunderland who he had an impressive loan spell with last season, but it seems that QPR manager Harry Redknapp might have pipped the Black Cats to the 23-year-old.

According to Sky Sports News, Leicester City are in talks to sign promising Swansea City teenager Kristian Scott. The 19-year-old joined the Swans for Stoke City just last September, but could join the Foxes in order to gain more first-team football.

Ongoing developments:

It was reported earlier today that Aston Villa have tabled a bid for Real Sociedad attacking midfielder Sergio Canales. Now, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has shattered any hopes that the 23-year-old could move to Villa Park by tweeting: "No way whatsover that Canales leaves Real Sociedad to sign for Aston Villa".

According to Mike Keegan of the Manchester Evening News, talks are ongoing between Manchester United and Spurs for the transfer of Danny Welbeck, and the striker is understood to be very willing to move to London.

Zeki Fryers and James McArthur could very soon be Crystal Palace players, according to Sky Sports News. Fryers has completed his medical and left the Palace training ground at 3:40pm; his move from Spurs is said to imminent. McArthur of Wigan Athletic is currently undergoing his medical with Palace and, provided all goes well, will sign for £7 million.

Radamel Falcao's flight is reportedly set to arrive in Manchester at 5:05pm, and then the striker will be driven to Carrington where he will undergo a medical and discuss personal terms before completing a season-long loan deal with United.
