Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly edging closer to securing the signing of Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck on an initial season-long loan deal.
The £15 million-rated striker is expected to leave United on a season-long loan deal, although it is expected that there will be an option to buy as part of the agreement.
Welbeck has just two years remaining on his current United contract and will only have one year left if he returns after a season away from the club.
Spurs look set to lead the chase for his signature on deadline day, although Sunderland, Hull City and Everton have also been linked with the England forward.
Welbeck is keen to be played in his preferred role as a striker after spending much of his playing time at United on the left of midfield, and Louis van Gaal's 3-5-2 formation is making it even more difficult for the 23-year-old to get regular chances.
Van Gaal has said that Welbeck will be allowed to leave if the right offer comes in, and he is one of many United players expected to depart before Monday's deadline.
Spurs have started the new season brightly under Mauricio Pochettino, and a switch to North London to join Spurs could give Welbeck the opportunity to start regular games in the Premier League.
