We may only be three rounds into the new Premier League campaign, but we may have already witnessed the match of the season.
Chelsea’s 6-3 victory over Everton on Saturday evening surprised many, with the Blues looking every inch champions-elect and the Toffees refusing to lie down, coming back time and again despite Diego Costa doubling his scoring-tally for the season.
Goals in the first and the last minute from the Spanish international helped Chelsea to a famous win, with Branislav Ivanovic, Nemanja Matic and Ramires adding to an own-goal from Everton’s Seamus Coleman.
The hosts scored through Kevin Mirallas, Steven Naismith and debutant Samuel Eto’o, but it was very much the visitors’ day, as they laid down a marker against a side who had come within minutes of beating Arsenal last time out.
There is still plenty of the season to go, but few would bet against Mourinho’s men if they keep playing like this.
As for Everton, they had plenty to be proud of. But Romelu Lukaku needs to find his fitness and form soon if he wants a repeat of last season.
