This summer Brazilian star Roberto Firmino has been linked with several moves away from his Bundesliga club Hoffenheim.
Liverpool were said to be fighting it out with plenty of clubs for the signature of the £20 million playmaker, whose form toward the end of the last Bundesliga season almost saw him on the plane to his homeland to represent his country at the World Cup.
Liverpool were said to be keen on bringing in the player as a potential foil for Philippe Coutinho. But in the end Firmino shocked everyone, including Liverpool fans, by deciding to stay with Hoffenheim. He signed a new deal in March and reiterated his commitment to the club in the summer, insisting he had no plans to leave.
Liverpool moved on, signing the likes of Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic instead, but watching him today Liverpool fans will certainly be hoping they revisit his situation at some point in the future.
He scored a sublime goal against Werder Bremen today. He latched on to a lofted pass, skipped past the goalkeeper with a deft touch, and smashed the ball into the net - without looking. Cheeky, classy and quality - it is a shame he is not in the Premier League.
