Chelsea’s Young Player of the Year announces new deal at the club

Lewis Baker has signed a new five-year deal with the Blues.

Chelsea youngster Lewis Baker took to social networking site Twitter to proudly announce his new five-year deal at the club, although he mistakenly put four years.

The 19-year-old has been with the Blues since the Under-10s age-group and he made his first-team debut last season as an 87th minute substitute during the West Londoners’ 2-0 FA Cup success over Derby County.

Described as a two-footed technical midfielder with excellent vision and creativity, the youngster has all the tools to go to the very top as boss Jose Mourinho explained a little over a month ago.

“My conscience tells me that if, for example, Baker, Brown, and Solanke are not national team players in a few years, I should blame myself," he told the club's official site.

"They are part of a process the club started without me. In this moment, we have players who will be Chelsea players. And when they become Chelsea players, they will become England players, almost for sure."

Baker had a campaign to remember last season as he claimed both the Chelsea Young Player of the Year award as well as the club’s Goal of the Season, voted by the supporters, for his delightful back-heel strike in an under-21 game against Arsenal.

Already a Premier League under-21 winner, the England under-19 international will be hoping to play a part in the first-team's Premier League title aspirations over the next few years.
