Former Liverpool and Manchester United star Michael Owen predicts Everton v Chelsea

Michael Owen

Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes that Chelsea will pick up all three points against Everton at Goodison Park in the Premier League today.

Winning against Everton at Goodison Park is not an easy task, but Chelsea will just about manage to do it today in their Premier League clash.

That’s the opinion of former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen, who believes that the Blues ‘have the edge’ against the Toffees.

However, Owen adds that Jose Mourinho’s side will not find it easy against an Everton side who have top-four ambitions.

‘A terrific game to look forward to but a difficult one to predict although I am just coming down on the side of the Blues of West London’, the former Newcastle United striker wrote on Betvictor.com.

‘I am loath to tip against Everton at Goodison but just feel Chelsea will have the edge even though they must do without the injured Diego Costa.

‘Samuel Eto’o is unlikely to start for the Toffees but another former Chelsea player Romelu Lukaku should and this is a fascinating subplot in what promises to be a real test of Chelsea’s title credentials’.

One cannot but agree with Owen: Chelsea will indeed be given a real test by Everton.

Roberto Martinez’s side kicked off their 2014-15 Premier League campaign with a 2-2 draw with Leicester City away from home, but last weekend they took title contenders Arsenal all the way.

The Toffees were 2-0 up against the Gunners at half time, but conceded two late goals to draw the encounter at the Goodison 2-2.

Everton’s performance in the first half against Arsenal was brilliant, and the Liverpool-based outfit will be looking for a repeat of that against the Blues today.

But as Owen says, Chelsea will be favourites but only just. Mourinho has one of the best and strongest squads in the Premier League and has started the season strongly.

A 3-1 comeback victory over Burnley at Turf Moor was followed by a 2-0 home win against Leicester: Chelsea will be determined to make it three wins out of three today.
