Arsenal transfer news: €27m bid for Carvalho; Alderweireld tells club he wants exit

All the latest transfer news and gossip from The Emirates.

Arsenal have made another move to sign William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon, for a fee in the region of £21.3 million. The talented midfielder, who has been compared to club legend Patrick Vieira, is believed to want an exit from Portugal this summer, in order to play a higher level of football.

Manchester United have ended their interest, after the struggles they have had with Sporting over Marcos Rojo, so Arsenal would appear to only have Monaco as challengers for the talent.

The new bid falls well short of his minimum fee release clause, but it is believed Sporting are ready to work down from that number in order to facilitate a move for their wantaway commodity.

In Portugal they have the latest updates on the situation, and according to A Bola the bid is indeed €27 million. Sporting Lisbon are still hoping to get €35 million for the player. However they are willing to drop that price, and it seems that the two clubs are not too far away on agreeing a fee for his services.

Reports in Spain suggest that Toby Alderweireld has handed in a transfer request at Atletico Madrid. The Belgian is being targeted as a potential Thomas Vermaelen replacement and is also wanted by Sunderland.

It is believed he has informed his agent to find him another team, and that he told Atleti of his intention to depart before the end of the Transfer Window.

There has been a storm surrounding reported striker target Radamel Falcao today, as he reportedly sent out a Tweet that he was on his way to Real Madrid.

He has since moved to deny this, saying it had been photoshopped and sent viral around Twitter. Falcao is expected to leave Monaco this week and did not feature for the team against Lille this afternoon.
