Everton and Chelsea played out a nine-goal thriller this afternoon at Goodison Park - Chelsea emerging victorious with 6-3 the end result.
In what was the most entertaining game of the new season so far it was again the performance of striker Diego Costa that caught the eye. The 25-year-old was a £32 million signing from Atletico Madrid this summer, as Chelsea desperately looked for goals after their troubles in front of goal last term. And the bullish striker has certainly delivered in that respect.
Costa scored twice today to add to his tally for the season, which now stands at an impressive four goals in three games - showing once again why a good centre forward can be so pivotal to success.
One team who would love someone like Costa in their ranks would have to be Arsenal, especially after their trip to Goodison Park last week. They drew 2-2, but the man who bagged their equaliser, Olivier Giroud, suffered a serious injury and is out until January.
That leaves Arsenal short of options up front, although Arsene Wenger insists it is a problem the club can handle internally.
One player Arsenal could use is young striker Chuba Akpom. He is expected to go out on loan this term but the prolific teenager could one day have a future at The Emirates. But the Arsenal starlet was in awe of Costa today, taking to Twitter to exclaim:
great game , costa is a beast !— Chuba Akpom (@cakpom) August 30, 2014
Model his game on Costa, and Akpom really might have a future at Arsenal.
