Palace fans react on Twitter to Zaha deal - 'Hope he can handle the step up to a big club'

Crystal Palace have signed Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha on a season long loan deal.

Crystal Palace confirmed the re-signing of Wilfried Zaha on a season long loan deal from Manchester United yesterday.

The highly rated English winger has been given the chance to revitalise his Premier League career at Palace after a frustrating spell under David Moyes, which saw him loaned to Cardiff, and new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.

Zaha isn’t suited to van Gaal’s 3-5-2 system at Old Trafford which appears to be the main reason he wasn’t getting into the team and the main reason for United agreeing to loan him out.

There are several positives for Neil Warnock’s side in having Zaha available for the rest of the season.

He’s an extremely quick player, which will work for Palace when they play against sides that like to build pressure over the opposition.

Sides that press in the attacking third and control possession leave a lot of space in behind and that’s something Zaha has the pace to exploit for Crystal Palace.

They have also signed him with a point to prove, which is different from the last time they had him on loan, just after he’d sealed his move to United.

He needs to perform at Palace for two main reasons.

Firstly, if he doesn’t want to leave United permanently then he needs to convince van Gaal that he’s worth keeping and secondly, it’s important for his reputation that he plays well after a long spell where he’s not had a regular and consistent first team chance.

Whether Palace will try and make the deal permanent at the end of the season remains to be seen but they stand a good chance if United haven’t changed the way they play under van Gaal.

United will also make further squad additions in the future and that works into Palace’s favour if they eventually harbour plans to make the loan move permanent.

Here’s what Palace fans made of the deal on social media website Twitter.
